Day traders usually buy on borrowed money, hoping that they will reap higher profits through leverage, but running the risk of higher losses too. While day trading is neither illegal nor is it unethical, it can be highly risky. Therefore, with a decent stock day trading strategy, and $30,000 (leveraged at 4:1), you can make roughly: $7,500 – $2000 = $5,500/month or about a 18% monthly return. Remember, you are actually utilizing about $100,000 to $120,000 in buying power on each trade (not just $30,000).

Start with at least $30,000 if you plan to make more than 4 day trades per trading week. 4 day trades or more per week gives you “day trader status” and you're subject to the $25,000 minimum account balance. Assume a day trading strategy where the stop loss is $0.04 and your target is $0.06. The account balance is $30,000, so the maximum risk per trade is $300. ...
