For stocks, a good measure of liquidity is the average daily trading volume. In general, any stock that trades at fewer than 10,000 shares a day is considered a low-volume stock. Low-volume stocks are harder to buy or sell quickly and at the market price. You would like to sell your 10,000 shares and pocket the profit. Low-volume training is a style of resistance training that integrates fewer sets and repetitions with heavier resistance than traditional muscle-building workouts. Most people follow a high-volume training regimen because they believe it's the most effective way to stimulate muscle growth.

Volume is the number of shares or contracts traded in a security or an entire market during a given period of time. For every buyer, there is a seller, and each transaction contributes to the count of total volume. The average daily trading volume (ADTV) is the amount of individual securities traded in a day on average over a specified period of time. As a result, average daily trading volume can have an effect on the price of the security. Stock chart volume is the number of shares traded during a given time period. Usually plotted as a histogram under a chart, volume represents the interest level in a stock. If a stock is trading on low volume, then there is not much interest in the stock.

Volume is a measure of how much of a given financial asset has been traded in a given period of time. It is a very powerful tool but is often overlooked because it is such a simple indicator.
