The strike price is the price at which an option buyer can buy the underlying asset. For example, a stock call option with a strike price of 10 means the option buyer can use the option to buy that stock at $10 before the option expires. A put option is an option contract giving the owner the right, but not the obligation, to sell a specified amount of an underlying security at a specified price within a specified time. This is the opposite of a call option, which gives the holder the right to buy shares. Definition: A call option is an option contract in which the holder (buyer) has the right (but not the obligation) to buy a specified quantity of a security at a specified price (strike price) within a fixed period of time (until its expiration). Option buyers have the right, but not the obligation, to buy (call) or sell (put) the underlying stock (or futures contract) at a specified price until the 3rd Friday of their expiration month. There are two kinds of options: calls and puts. Call options give you the right to buy the underlying asset. If a call is the right to buy, then perhaps unsurprisingly, a put is the option to sell the underlying stock at a predetermined strike price until a fixed expiry date. The put buyer has the right to sell shares at the strike price, and if he/she decides to sell, the put writer is obliged to buy at that price. A call option is an agreement that gives an investor the right, but not the obligation, to buy a stock, bond, commodity or other instrument at a specified price within a specific time period. The strike price is the price at which an option buyer can buy the underlying asset. For example, a stock call option with a strike price of 10 means the option buyer can use the option to buy that stock at $10 before the option expires. There is an expiration date of the put option. There is a strike price of the put option. The put option is the right to SELL the underlying stock or index at the strike price. This contrasts with a call option which is the right to BUY the underlying stock or index at the strike price.
